Abstract of the seminar:
Statistics provides models and processes to support rational inference and thus is instrumental in developing knowledge.Decision analysis is about deploying knowledge in the support of better decision making. Thus the former concerns one of the inputs to knowledge management, while the latter concerns one of the outputs.Yet despite these close relationships there have been few discussions of the connections and interrelationships between the three. In this talk, I will use the framework provided by Snowdens Cynefin model to explore these relationships and draw conclusions for the practice of both statistics and decision analysis, particularly in relation to sense making and problem formulation.
